Fed up with those boring illustrations?

When I met him -This illustrator "feednfed" - for the first time about three years ago, I had no idea that he was such a talented artist, until he contacted me as he had some questions about Printmaking this February.
We met at this Ramen restaurant in East Village, talked about our updates, and as we were slurping up the noodles, he showed me some sketches. As soon as I saw his art works, I was totally blown away and thought..."Noodle!". Yes, the most remarkable part of his work is, "Hair", which looks like a dense pile of noodles for me.
前回の予告通り、私が久々にガビ〜ンと来たイラストレーターの方をご紹介したいと思います。
彼〜通称"feednfed"氏〜と出会ったのは約３年程前、その時は話が凄く面白いなー、とは思ったものの、このような才能の持ち主だとは知る由もありませんでした。今年の２月に印刷の事で聞きたい事があるので、と言う事で連絡を頂き、イーストビレッジに出来たラーメン屋で久々にお会いして、お互いの近況報告をした後、麺をすすりながら作品を見せて頂いた所、、ぶっとびました。
その時見せて頂いたのは確かサイケデリックなイラストだったのですが、脳裏に浮かんだのはズバリ 「麺！ヌードル！」でした。待ち合わせがラーメン屋だったのはただの偶然として、そのジンジョーじゃないほどに緻密な髪の毛の描写が、幼い頃に好きだっ たシュールなソングブックの中の「オン・トップ・オブ・スバゲッティ」という、スパゲッティの上のミートボールがどこまでももつれもつれて転がって行くと いう歌の、シュールな挿絵を私に思い起こさせたのでした。（この絵は姉妹共にある種のトラウマとなっています...）
On our third meeitng at a Mexican restaurant, he showed me more sketches and that time, I strongly suggested him to draw politicians. As you can see, he has his own, unique way of drawing portraits of random people. And I thought since he depicts the inner/hidden sides of human beings(..oh lord, I do not want him to draw me..!), politicians must be a perfect subject as their thoughts are all appeared on their faces. Especially, when there's a Presidential Election coming up next year, and as I think "face" is a raw thing which changes every day, now is the timing, when their inner voices "I'm the next President of the United States!" is all written on their faces loudly...
In just few days after the meeting, he sent me what he drew..
その後、３回目の打ち合わせのメキシカン・レストランにて、さらに大量のスケッチを見せてもらいました。その時、人間の内面をコミカルかつシュールにえぐり出すような独特のポートレイトに私が目をまるくして「...政治家の顔を描いてみませんか！？」と提案したのは、以前書いた記事でも触れたように、人間、特に政治家という職業の人は、イヤらしさや並々ならぬ野望や熱意、その他内面の全ての要素が顔に滲み出ていて、素材としてとても面白いと思ったからでした。特に、彼が描けば面白いものになるに違いない、そう確信しました。
さらには来年２０１２年は米大統領選挙の年、顔が生モノだとすれば、まさに今が、オバマに対抗して「我こそが次の大統領に！」と顔にバビッと書いてある政治家の顔の旬！刈り入れ時！描き時！という事で..。
ブリトーをメキシカンビールで流し込みながら、「やりましょう！」と彼がふたつ返事をしてからたった数日後には、このような凄いクオリティの絵が送られてきました。（"早描きのfeednfed"という異名を特許申請中。）
さらには来年２０１２年は米大統領選挙の年、顔が生モノだとすれば、まさに今が、オバマに対抗して「我こそが次の大統領に！」と顔にバビッと書いてある政治家の顔の旬！刈り入れ時！描き時！という事で..。

A: feednfedQ: What did you feel when you were drawing these politicians?
政治家を描いている時、何を感じましたか？
A: I felt its more about "Human Nature" before they are politicians. I strongly felt "Fame&Fortune" on some of their faces.
政治がどうこう以前に、富と名声に対して欲望むき出しの人間らしさみたいなものを感じました。
Q: What do you listen to when you are drawing?
絵を描いているときは、何か音楽を聞いていますか？ A: I listen to Punk, Slush Metal, such as "Suicidal Tendencies" , "Mcrad", "Bad Manners", "Buzzcocks" "Judas Priest", and "Metalica" when I'm concentrating on drawing.
主にパンクやスラッシュメタルを聞いています。特にSuicidal TendenciesやMcrad、Bad Manners、Buzzcocks、Judas Priest、それからメタリカなんかを聞いています。
Q: What is the concept of your website?
ご自身のウェブサイトのコンセプトは？
A: I intended to make it look like a cheap, dated American porn site which I think the design and colors are cool. デザインや色遣いが好きなので、昔のアメリカのチープなポルノサイトを意識しています。
